2013 WILL NOT SUCK!!

I'm just putting it out there.

2013 you will not suck.

You can't.

2012 wasn't that bad, I mean it could have been way worse, but the last 6 weeks was not great. Which coincidentally is when the year started to suck last year. hmm. Maybe the year should just end on Halloween?

I wish I had tons of pics of Christmas but I really don't have that many....

I put together my childhood Barbie Townhouse for my oldest:

The box still had the tag on it. It cost $19.99 in 1977 but I swear it's better plastic and materials than today's stuff!
It was in really great condition, since it was put away in the box it came in some 30 odd years ago. She really likes it. Just a little dusty and there were no tears in the cardboard and it put together really easily!

But I knew Christmas was going to be not great when the little one took a nap on Christmas Eve. For like 2 hours. hmm. Then she went to bed at her normal time and I still had to wake her up on Christmas Day. She then just sat there:

She wouldn't open her presents. She just sat there very miserable. By 10:30 am she put herself back down for a nap that last 3 hours. After waking her and seeing her temp at 104.6 we headed to the hospital.

Four hours later she had a diagnosis with a positive FLU test. When we first walked back to the children's ER with the nurse I informed them that she was nonverbal autistic so they would have a heads up.  In the 4 hours we spent there we encountered 7/7 medical professionals who never read her chart before coming into her room.  From nurses, to xray technicians to the DR. Not a single one came in with reading the chart before hand. After about 4 hours she had had enough of the little room and wanted to go home. She put her shoes on, walked to the door and kept saying Bye Bye. :(  It was our first trip to the ER with a kid and I damn hope it's our last one. She's better today but it was a rough Christmas.

Her sister didn't really understand why we couldn't have Christmas with her Pee Paw (grandpa) who came over to watch her while we took her sister to the hospital. Her sister gave her a touch of the flu because she fell asleep at 5pm the next day and slept all through the night.

I went to my Weight Watchers meeting on Saturday and it was not a great weigh in. I knew it though. From having a sick kid, the trip to the ER, to stress eating it was just not good. But that went for my whole meeting group because at the end our leader told us we had a grand total of 12 lbs loss for that week! LOL.

On Sunday I went to make my lunch. With one turn of the dial we got another unexpected bill.

Our oven died. The repair guy came out today and said that 1) they don't make parts for it anymore and 2) it's older than this 40 year old blog writer. I knew it was old but I didn't think it was as old as me. If it had given me any problems in the last 12 years I would have not been surprised by this development. Sigh.

So there it is in a nutshell. We had just finished paying off the new furnace (from a mere 6 weeks ago!) this week when the oven died.

My husband and I probably won't try to think about that when we go out tonight. The only reason we are going out is that for once we have a sitter and we have a gift card to a high faluting steak restaurant that we finally want to use. So for the first time in like forever we are going out on a date!!

So to the year 2012 I say goodbye... but please ....

Have a safe and great Happy New Year!!

  2. My adult kids were both sick Christmas week and it was rough going...I was honestly grateful they weren't younger, because as you got to experience, it was even worse. I'm so sorry your kiddos were sick. Hopefully everyone is on the mend, and yes, 2013 will not suck!

P.S. That is so awesome that you were able to give your daughter your old Barbie Dream House. I love it!

P.S.S. That was one ancient oven. Sorry it gave up the ghost, though.

    1. Everyone was sick so it seemed! The ER dr said 95% of the kids coming into the ER had the flu and my Dad was sick to as well.

  4. Happy New Year!!! Love the Barbie House. SO cool that you still have it. I was born in 1977 so quality stuff was made that year. :) Sorry about the oven - it's always something! Our oldest just wrecked our (paid off) minivan. Sigh. (She is fine though which is all that really matters).

And sorry about the sickness. It seems like everyone was battling evil viruses this holiday season. NO FUN.

2013 is going to be great for you. :)

Your son was in the hospital longer than what Avery dealt with and I can't even imagine.
