So a few weeks ago right before Christmas I signed up for a few races.
So far this is the schedule:
January 20th - I convinced somehow to get my bestfriend to sign up for this 5K:
Midwinter Cruise 5k it was only $22 when we signed up so I thought well it won't be that bad if the weather goes to hell on that day.
Thing is that we walked the other day with some running and I could barely get 2 miles out of her before she was done because it was cold. In her defense we hadn't been out on the trail in over a month or so so I didn't expect much. Well it was cold but I think race day per the 10 day forecast looks like cold. lol. So she will be moving faster than she normally does on that day. It will be fun. It's her first 5k and she's nervous.
Still looking for a February and March race.
In April I have two races!
Of course I got sucked back into doing the Shamrock Shuffle on April 7th. I have a love/hate relationship with this race. It was my first race. Yes I bypassed a 5k for my first race and went straight to an 8k. Anyways the first time was freezing, snowing and my feet were soaked by the time we started. Then there was the year it was really warm in April and it just sucked. It's always fun because it's a good group for a race and a lot of friends do it.
Also on April 28th I have a return to this race: The Race That's Good for Life in Oak Park. I've done this twice. First year I had a great time and actually placed 2nd in my division for the Clydesdale/Athena. Second year I was hurting and it showed. Blah.
On May 4th I return to a local favorite (well local to some!) but I have signed up for the Wisconsin Half in Kenosha! I'm pretty sure a few local bloggers are signed up for that race. It was so well run, nice course, and everyone was so nice! I can't wait to go back to that race!
Then for some reason I didn't schedule any races in June, July, August or September. hmm Maybe because those months are hotter than hell sometimes so I purposely did not sign up for any halfs during that time.
So in October thanks to Kim @ ilaxstudio who gave the heads up about the deal for the
Thriller in Schiller. I am signed up for this trail race with my husband so that well should be fun. Since he could do a half marathon without any training.
Then in November I have my eyes on this new half marathon. It's the Naperville Marathon and Half (ONLY THE HALF!!) It literally is a half hour from my house and it's an inaugural event. Registration doesn't open until Jan. 28th and there is still no word on the cost yet. I hope it's not a super duper high $$. The field is capped at 4,000.
So that's a few races. Which is more than what I did last year at all. My goal this year for my races is just to FINISH. ugh. I was pretty disappointed last year what happened physically and mentally when it came to races.
This year I decided to step back and not to focus on trying to do Chicago again. And at $175 for registration the marathon made it an easy decision this year.
I wanted to still raise money for Run for Autism so I have a page for a team: Team Avery - Don't Stop Believing (yes reusing 2011's team name!) and if you would like to be part of the team and raise money while racing this year please email me at babyweightmyfatass@gmail.com OR please help out and make a donation today! I would love to beat my total of $1,200 for last year!
There is more to come in 2013! Lot's of good stuff!! Thanks for sticking with me through this last year!! It means the world to me!
Yay! Lots of fun races! Lots of ones I am familiar with too. I do wonder what the cost will be for the inaugural Naperville Half! A lot of people I know are excited about it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out :)
I love the enthusiasm that signing up for races brings...we are in that process, too, and it's exciting! Glad you are not going to run Chicago this year. It hasn't been kind to you - time to find a new one (and that inaugural race could be all kinds of awesome).
ReplyDeleteYou've got quite a few lined up that sound like they will be a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteReally CHi is up to $175?? WOw! I will see you in Kenosha!
